ABOUT ME

About Anita Roy

Hi, my name is Anita Roy. I have proudly called this community home for the past 20 years. My family and I have built our lives here, and I am passionate about serving the people who make this neighbourhood such a great place to live.

I hold a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Before moving to Canada, I worked as a teacher in a higher secondary school in India for 15 years and later served as an Assistant Teacher in the Louis Riel School Division.

For the past 20 years, I have dedicated my career to nursing and caring for our community. I began my nursing career in a personal care home and then worked at St. Amant Centre for seven years. I have also worked with the WRHA Respite Program, St. Boniface General Hospital, and as a Community Nurse in the Fort Garry area. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I served at the Fort Garry COVID-19 Testing Centre. Today, I continue to serve our community as a Home Care Nurse with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). I have also had the privilege of mentoring future healthcare professionals as a Clinical Practicum Instructor for Licensed Practical Nurses.

I am committed to lifelong learning and leadership. I completed the Indigenous Canada Certificate through the University of Alberta, leadership and management studies through the University of Toronto, and have participated in numerous workshops on Indigenous culture and Truth and Reconciliation.

Giving back to the community has always been important to me. I served two terms as a volunteer Board Director with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba and currently serve as a volunteer Board of Director with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society in Ottawa.

I believe that strong communities are built through listening, collaboration, and service. I am committed to bringing those values to City Council and working hard to make our neighbourhood an even better place to live, work and raise a family.
