Engaging the Next Generation: Great Conversations at the U of M Town Hall
Event: University of Manitoba Town Hall
Candidate: Anita Roy for City Councillor, St. Norbert - Seine River
Focus: Student Engagement, Youth Voices, Safer & Connected City Planning
“Great conversations and valuable perspectives at the University of Manitoba Town Hall. Listening to students, learning from our community, and bringing those ideas forward as we work toward a stronger, safer and more connected Winnipeg.”
The future of our city is being shaped right now on our university campuses. I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the University of Manitoba Town Hall, where I sat down with students, faculty, and community members to discuss the real issues impacting young adults in Winnipeg today.
Why Student Voices Matter at City Hall
Students are not just temporary residents; they are the future workforce, entrepreneurs and community builders of Manitoba. During the Town Hall, we had passionate discussions about the municipal issues that directly affect student life, including:
- Reliable Transit: Ensuring safe, affordable and frequent bus routes connecting campuses to neighborhoods like St. Norbert - Seine River.
- Campus & Community Safety: Addressing lighting, security, and safe transportation options for students studying and commuting late into the evening.
- Affordable Housing & Rent: Discussing the city's role in supporting attainable housing for young adults and newcomers.
Bringing Your Ideas Forward
A City Council that doesn't listen to its youth is a council without a future. The energy, innovation, and fresh perspectives I heard at the U of M are exactly what we need in our municipal government. My commitment as your City Councillor is to take these valuable perspectives directly to the council chambers and turn them into actionable policies.
Thank You, U of M!
Thank you to the organizers and every student who took the time to share their thoughts with me. Together, we are working toward a stronger, safer and more connected Winnipeg where every generation has a voice and a stake in our city's future.
